Track 0 – Owner / Manager (April 30th) |
Wednesday, April 30th
The Bigger Future – For Entrepreneurs (8:30 am – 10:00am)
Paulette Sopoci - Strategic Coach
When you look ahead at your life as an entrepreneur, how big is your future?
Some entrepreneurs spend their time fixing one problem after another, gradually working toward incremental progress. But other entrepreneurs manage to achieve exponential leaps of growth and, instead of getting busier, actually gain more freedom to live the life they want.
The difference is all in the context – how you think, plan, and take action in your business.
In this presentation, you will be given a system you can use to develop a 20-year vision of a “bigger future” for your business and your personal life, and a plan for reaching that goal. This vision can help you strategically focus your thinking, communication, and actions to create more productivity, predictability, and profitability than you’ve ever experienced before.
CodeBlue - How Outsourcing of the Claims Department will Impact the Restoration Contractor (1:40pm to 2:30pm)
Paul Gross, President - CodeBlue

Managing for Profit Through Job Costing (2:40pm to 3:30pm)
Ken Tucker - Business Mentors
Scott Pritchard, President - CanAm Systems
Through years of consulting for restoration contractors, Business Mentors has found that many contractors do not pay enough attention to job costing, and those that actually use job-costing use it to measure profitability after the job has been completed. During this session you will learn how to plan for profitability through job-costing. Ken and Scott will be able to show you exactly how this can be implemented within your company including the roles of your project manager, accounting staff and the owner.
Track M – Marketing/Sales (April 29th) |
Building a Marketing Plan Through Key Insights (2:10pm – 3:00pm)
Brad Elkins, Senior Marketing Manager, - ICI Paints
Understanding the needs of your customer has been the traditional approach to developing a marketing plan. Many companies get into a marketing rut, offering the same thing to their customers year after year. The difficulty is in understanding how best to turn findings into key insights that can then be turned into a platform for services you offer to your customer. During this session you will be introduced to a five-step approach that you can apply to your company and develop an actionable marketing plan.
How to Market "Green" in The Restoration Industry (4:10pm – 5:00pm)

Understanding Moisture Evaporation Rate Potential (MERP) (1:40pm – 2:30pm)
Chuck Dewald III - The Chuck Dewald Structural Drying School,
The goal of this presentation is to examine a new method of evaluating any condition in terms of its drying potential. There has always been one simple question we as an industry could never answer. Let me ask one simple question; Which of these two conditions will dry a building faster?
Condition #1 Condition #2
120ºF/1 4% RH 90ºF/15% RH
70 gpp 30 gpp
This presentation is designed to give the reader the ability to answer the question posed above, to analyze the psychrometric chart like never before, to determine the exact drying performance of any given indoor condition, and most importantly, to determine which equipment technologies can produce the best drying performances. This new method or value for accomplishing all of this is called MERP (Moisture Evaporation Rate Potential).

Mold Standards & Guidelines – 2008 Update (4:10pm to 5:00pm)
Andreas Wagner, Principal - Golder Associates Ltd.
Is mould the “next asbestos”? A growing body of legislation points to a rising profile for mould contamination in buildings. Mould continues to be a significant issue for building owners, managers and financiers. However, mould is still a little-understood issue, with hard-to-predict implications. Additionally, recent changes to Asbestos Regulation in Ontario now require that suspect water damaged or mould-contaminated building materials such as drywall be tested for asbestos, and if found to be positive, be removed and disposed of as asbestos. Complying with this new Regulation is not an option and will certainly result in increased costs for remediation. This presentation will provide an update on current mould assessment and remediation guidelines and protocol in Ontario, Canada and the US.
